Sailing
Sailing is amazing
This page outlines how the Sailing division of IYC Sailing operates and will give you an idea of what to expect when you join.
The IYC Sailing division has a long tradition of sailing on Lake Illawarra. Over the years, many classes of Dinghies and Trailable Yachts have sailed from the Illawarra Yacht Club facilities.
Our divisions include:
Open Division
The Open Division consists of all classes of dinghies.
For many years, the 16 ft Skiffs were a popular class of dinghy, along with Lasers, B14s and 29ers classes.
These senior classes sail on Sunday afternoons.

Junior and Youth Division
Junior and Youth Division have sailed Flyng Ants and 13ft Skiffs on Sunday mornings.

Trailable Yachts Division
Trailable Yachts started sailing at IYC in 1982 and have continued as a strong and competitive division through to today.

Learn To Sail
IYC Sailing has offered Learn to Sail programs for Junior using the Sabot as the training class.
In 2026 IYC Sailing will offer an Adult Learn to Sail program using the Status 580 Trailable Yacht.
