NOTICE OF RACE
Organising Authority
in conjunction with
1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY
- The Organising Authority (OA) will be IYC Sailing Incorporated – Windsurfing Division, in conjunction with Windsurfing NSW.
2. TERMS
a. OA: the Organising Authority as defined in 1.
b. AWA: the Australian Windsurfing Association.
c. RRS: the Racing Rules of Sailing.
d. WCR B8: the Windsurfing Competition Rules, specifically Appendix B of the RRS.
e. WSR: the World Sailing Regulations.
f. OFBRC: the Oak Flats Bowling and Recreation Club – better known as the IYC.
g. The terms Participant and Competitor are used through the document and are interchangeable.
3. RULES
a. The regatta will be governed by the current RRS.
- The WCR B8 shall apply.
- The Class Championship Rules shall apply.
- The Class rules of the International Raceboard Association will apply.
i. Rule C.8.1.(a) is changed to three sails.
4. ADVERTISING
a. All advertising will be in accordance with World Sailing Regulation.
5. FLEETS
a. The participating fleets shall be:
i. Open Raceboard,
1. Any raceboard, as determined by the Raceboard class rules with max sail size of 9.5M.
ii. Retro Raceboard,
1. Any pre-2004 raceboard with max sail size of 9.5M.
iii. Windsurfer GT,
1. Any standard Windsurfer LT longboard and fin with max sail size of 9.5M.
iv. Sprint.
1. Any raceboard with a max sail size of 9.5M.
2. Competitors in the Sprint fleet will sail a shortened course.
3. The OA reserves the right to move a competitor from any of the other fleets into the Sprint fleet if the competitor cannot complete the required course for the fleet they entered in the desired timeframe for the fleet.
b. There are no age or weight divisions within the fleets.
c. All fleets have a Men’s and Women’s division.
i. For final results, the OA may combine competitors within divisions across fleets should numbers not facilitate full podium positions. Competitors in the Open Raceboard fleet will take priority.
d. The OA may alter the breakdown of fleets at its discretion.
e. A minimum of 5 competitors is required to constitute a fleet.
6. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
a. Entry is open to all boards of the Raceboard class.
i. This includes the standard Windsurfer LT board.
b. Pre 2004 raceboards are eligible in either Open or Retro but must choose which on entry.
c. Windsurfer LT longboards must enter the Windsurfer GT fleet.
d. Windsurfer GT class must use the standard LT fin.
e. D2 style longboards are not eligible.
f. Competitors must:
i. be financial members of the Australian Windsurfing Association or pay an addition $30 upon entry
ii. comply with World Sailing Eligibility Rules, and
iii. enter online at [address here].
g. Entries close on 1st Jan 2026.
7. FEES
a. The fees are:
i. Regatta Entry
1. Open Raceboard $150
2. Retro Raceboard $75
3. Windsurfer GT $75
4. Sprint $75
ii. Youth Entry – any fleet $30
1. Youth is defined as age under 21 as at 1st Jan 2026
a. The event may be multi-discipline, including course, slalom, marathon and other events to be determined by the OA.
b. All fleets shall race together.
c. There shall be a maximum of 4 course races per day.
d. There shall be a maximum of 3 non-planning course races per day.
e. Three course races are required to validate the event.
9. SCHEDULE
- The proposed schedule is as follows:
- Thursday 8 Jan 2026
i. Registration 8:30 – 10:00
ii. Briefing 10:00 – 10:30
iii. Racing From 11:30
iv. Welcome drinks 17:00
- Friday 9 Jan 2026
i. Racing From 10:00
- Saturday 10 Jan 2026
i. Racing From 10:00
ii. Social Event 18:30 (pay as you go)
- Sunday 11 Jan 2026
i. Racing From 10:00
ii. Presentation 15:00 – 15:30
- The start times for the second and succeeding races on each day will be as soon as practical after the conclusion of the preceding race.
- On Sunday 11th January 2026 there will be no warning signal made after 14:00hrs.
10. MEASUREMENT
- The format for measurement will be as set out in the Raceboard class rules.
11. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
a. The course racing sailing instructions will be available on the OA website and at registration.
12. VENUE & COURSES
a. The regatta will be situated at the Illawarra Yacht Club, 1 Northcliffe Dr, Warrawong, NSW.
b. Course racing will be as per the course diagrams details in the Sailing Instructions; other race diagrams will be as per the noticeboard on the day.
c. Attachment 1 shows the approximate racing area.
a. Scoring will be according to the WCR B8 and using the Low Points Scoring System.
b. An overall ranking will be published. The finishing positions for fleets will be determined by their respective finishing position in the overall ranking.
c. Each fleet shall be scored separately.
14. SUPPORT AND COACH BOATS
a. If called upon, support and coach boats will act as rescue boats.
b. Support and coach boats and coaches shall register when entering.
c. Support and coach boats are required to have a marine VHF Radio.
15. PRIZES
a. Awards may be made at the discretion of the OA.
16. COMMUNICATION
a. While racing, except in an emergency, a participant shall not make or receive voice or data transmissions or communications that is not available to all participants..
17. DISCLAIMER OF ENTRY
a. It is the competitor’s sole decision to enter this event and to start and or to continue to compete.
b. By way of entering, competitors acknowledge and agree that participation in this event can be dangerous and accept that their participation is at their exclusive risk in every respect.
c. Competitors shall hold harmless the OA, the OFBRC, its officers, members, employees and agents and all other competitors in respect of all liability for injury to their person and or loss or damage to their property howsoever arising from their participation or intended participation in this event and acknowledge and accept that the organising authority, its officers, members, servants, agents and other competitors accept no responsibility in respect to loss of life, personal injury or loss or damage to property which may be sustained by reason of a competitor’s participation or intended participation in this event or arising for whatever reason in connection with this event.
d. Competitors automatically grant to the OA, the Class Associations and their sponsors the right in perpetuity to make, use and show, from time to time at their discretion, any motion pictures and live, taped or filmed television and other reproductions of the athlete during the period of competition without compensation.
e. Boats may be required to carry cameras, sound equipment or positioning equipment as specified by the OA.
f. Competitors may be required to attend interviews and press conferences at the Championship.
18. RISK WARNING
a. This risk warning is issued jointly by the OA, the OFBRC, WINDSURFING NSW and NSW Roads and Maritime Service, pursuant to the Civil Liability Act 2002, to all persons wishing to participate in the 2026 Raceboard Australian Championships. Participants are warned that, regardless of the precautions which might be taken by reasonable and experienced persons, sailing can be a dangerous pursuit and participants are exposed to significant risk of property damage, physical harm and possibly death. As an indication, these risks may include, but are not limited to:
i. the extremes of weather and sea conditions,
ii. the potential that control of vessels may be lost, resulting in collision with objects and other vessels,
iii. the sudden movement of the vessel at any time and the possibility that the participants may fall or be thrown overboard resulting in drowning,
iv. the possibility that participants may be injured by equipment on the vessel
v. the absence of immediate medical care and the likelihood that significant delays may occur before medical care is available,
vi. exposure to the elements for extended periods.
b. The OA, the OFBRC, WINDSURFING NSW and NSW Roads and Maritime Service also warn participants that regardless of their best intentions, they may be unable to render assistance to participants who may be in distress.
c. Participants are warned to consider the above risks and all other risks before deciding to participate in any sailing event.
d. Participants are notified that although OA is covered by third party liability insurance, this cover does not extend to participants. Any participant who considers they have a need for insurance must make their own private arrangements with an insurer. Membership of a Sailing Club affiliated with Australian Sailing entitles you to personal insurance cover through that Australian Sailing membership.
e. It is the competitor’s decision to enter any race or to start and continue in any race. Competitors shall accept that their participation in the race is at their own exclusive risk in every respect. The OA, the OFBRC, their officers, members, employees and agents, accept no liability in respect of loss of life, personal injury or loss or damage to property which may be sustained by reason of their participation or intended participation in the regatta or how so ever arising in connection with the event.
f. RRS Fundamental Rule 3 - Decision to Race. “The responsibility for a boat's decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”
a. AWA Membership or equivalent International Membership of competitors will be checked at Registration. IF you are not a current AWA member, you must purchase the $30 extra insurance option when entering and the OA will register you with the AWA for this year. This will be checked at registration.
